Is It Time for a Website Overhaul?
If you’ve been looking at your website and analytics and aren’t thrilled with what you see then it might be time to think about overhauling your website. There are multiple reasons why you might want to change the look, feel, and function of your website, but there are three that stand out the most; it doesn’t function the way it should; it isn’t accessible from all devices; it no longer matches your brand and aesthetic. If any of those reasons line up with you, then it’s time for a redesign!
Your website needs to function at peak performance in order to drive sales to your business. If it isn’t function properly then you are driving business away from you and towards your competitors instead of the other way around. Are potential clients and customers having trouble navigating to your contact page? Can they easily sign up for your newsletters? Are they having problems finalizing the purchase of your products? If your website isn’t working the way it’s supposed to, then it might as well not be working at all. For a lot of businesses, your website is the first point (and sometimes, only point) of contact. It is so important that it actually works the way you need it to!
We live in a world that thrives on being able to access anything from anywhere, and desktops are steadily going the way of the landline in most homes. If your hosting site doesn’t allow for easy manipulation across devices, you are narrowing down your demographic and preventing people from being able to access you and your business at will. Your website could look beautiful from a desktop but off-kilter and overly enlarged on a mobile device. You want something that will look the same no matter how it’s viewed. This keeps your clients at ease and prevents them from second-guessing if they are even on the right site to begin with. This is a huge reason why I love Squarespace so much! With a little CSS optimization, your site looks and operates the same no matter what device its opened on.
Finally, your website needs to match your brand and the aesthetic that you are going for. Does your website still fit the story you are trying to convey or the products and services that you are selling? As your business evolves, so does your vision for it. The whole point of having a website is to tell your story and bring in potential clients, so you need to make sure that you are doing that in the best way possible. It is absolutely okay for your brand to change over time as you hone in on what works for you and what doesn’t, what you like and what you don’t like. So, just because one look fit your business a few years ago, doesn’t mean it has to still fit you now. This is when it’s time for a redesign.
